Civil Weddings

The Wedding Chamber is in the upper part of the original hall. The roof timbers have been dated by dendrochronology to 1486 and are particularly fine. The wind braces are pierced and cusped and form quatrefoils.

What appears to be a wall plate where the roof meets the walls is, in fact, a moulded decoration placed above the wall plate. Clearly the owners of this 15th century hall spared no expense in its construction. The main uprights are chamfered and an arch brace, decorated by a single large-chamfered cusp on the inner edge, rises from low down the post. This then connects to the principal rafter which is, although a long way from the floor, heavily moulded. The tie beam near the apex of the roof is deeply chamfered.

Due to the nature and age of the floor in the chamber however, we do have a "no stilletos" policy; also the weight limit on the floor is restricted to 45 people.

We welcome any flower arrangements you may wish to bring and are happy for environmentally degradable confetti to be thrown in the paved courtyard. Music can also be arranged for during the ceremony. We also have available the Anti-Chamber for a drinks reception if required.
